What is a keelboat?

Keelboats are sailing boats that have a keel, which is a fin-like structure that protrudes downwards from the bottom of the boat into the water. The keel provides stability and prevents the boat from tipping over in strong winds. Keelboats can vary in size from small, single-sail dinghies to large, multi-sail yachts. They are commonly used for racing or cruising, and can be sailed in a variety of bodies of water, including lakes, rivers, and oceans. Keelboats can be constructed from a range of materials, including wood, fiberglass, or aluminum, and can be outfitted with different types of sails depending on their intended use and the prevailing winds in the area. Despite the presence of a keel, keelboats can still capsize, although it is less likely to occur than with other types of sailboats.
